  2. We KNOW that there are bills out there! Legislature MUST act on legislation!!
  3. Make sure the Transportation and Reform Commission are NOT used as an excuse for inaction on legislature.

SOT NEWS!

Hey all! so, as you may have heard, the port authority has decided to decrease service cuts from 25% to 15%. THIS IS STILL UNACCEPTABLE!! Although SOME of us have gotten our routes saved, there are still others struggling with the impeding reality that there neighborhood will have ZERO access to the grocery store, school, work, doctors appointments, ect.

We NEED to stick together on NO SERVICE CUTS! NO FARE HIKES! It is IMPERATIVE that BUS RIDERS show the PAT board the committment we have to our public transit system.

SO, what can we do?

  1. Thursday, March 29th: PICKET the proposed port authority service cuts! 11:45 am till 1:00 pm -stay as long as want/can!! We will have signs and petitions to get signed! Meet across the street from 345 sixth ave. (downtown).
  2. Thursday, March 29th: VIGIL from 5:30PM till 9:00AM on Friday, March 30th. We will have the same plan of attending the board meeting, where they will be making the final vote on the proposed service cuts.
  3. Friday, March 30th: PAT BOARD MEETING begins at 9:30 AM, at 345 Sixth ave. in the Neal H. Holmes Rm on the 5th Floor. We want as many people to go to this as we can get! We will have small signs for people to hold while inside at the meeting. It's going to be an exciting week! If you can make it to any of these events, please let SOT know!

More info on the VIGIL:

  • Come for as long as you can stay!
  • Start to gather about 5:30 PM for an evening picket -this will last until 9:00 AM on Friday morning!!
  • Across the street from 345 sixth ave. (downtown), where we have been holding our pickets
  • If you can't stay all night, the REALLY REALLY important times to be there are:
    • 8:00 PM on Thursday evening for our media event
    • 6:00 AM on Friday morning-also for possible media coverage
  • Be sure to bring a small folding chair or bucket to sit on!! Perhaps a light blanket or sleeping back to cover up with! We will have signs, big and small. (we won't be able to bring the larger signs in with us). We will have someone sitting outside in the morning when we all go into to watch our things, since they (security in the building) will not be so accomodating.
