    The "Pledge of Support for Working Families" is the newest project that is coming out of the Thomas Merton Center.  The Pledge will affirm that the signing organizations respect their workers and their families by endorsing the five items listed in it. 

           This campaign broadens the social justice movement by understanding that peace and justice starts at home and in the workplace.  This pledge is being distributed to you, and many other organizations to be signed, passed along to others and used as an opportunity to educate your own members, as well as others, on issues impacting working families in Allegheny County.  After the distribution and initial signings, a list of signers and non-signers will be accumulated and publicized through the TMC web-site, as well as through various media. 

• We commit to a county-wide living wage AND demonstrate this by beginning with our own employees.
• We commit to using union labor whenever feasible for our own organization’s needs.
• We oppose the privatization of current public services, including garbage pick-up and transportation.
• We oppose the use of public funds for anti-union activities.
• We support a county-wide displaced workers ordinance.
