Supporting local Haitians

The Haiti Solidarity Committee is committed to supporting Haitians in the region in any way that we can. We provide solidarity for personal needs. If you are in need of support or wish to help, please contact the HSC.

Bringing Haitian students to Duquesne

The Haiti Solidarity Committee sponsors students from Fonkoze, Haiti's bank for the organized poor, who come to Pittsburgh to study on scholarship for one semester or two semesters at Duquesne University.

Partners in Progress (PIP)

Partners in Progress (PIP) advocates rural sustainable development in Haiti through the support of the Peasant Associations in Haiti. They participate in fundraising activities and involve people from the United States for technical assistance with projects chosen by the Peasant Associations. The HSC supports PIP locally by providing regional outreach and logistical support when the Board meets in Pittsburgh.

Parish Twinning Program

The Parish Twinning Program facilitates and supports linkages of Catholic parishes in the United States and Canada with sister parishes and projects in Haiti. The program and its churches share a personal relationship with their twin parishes in Haiti, and they share resources and financial aid as well. Many parishioners have traveled to their sister parishes over the years to join them in mind and spirit. The HSC collects educational and medical supplies to send with other supplies from other cities through the Parish Twinning Program.
The program organizes sea container shipments of donated goods for parishes in Haiti. The Parish Twinning Program also facilitates medical missions wherein teams of doctors and nurses visit remote areas and treat numbers of patients who aren't getting proper medical care or need a diagnosis. These medical missions often help thousands in just days. The Program also brings patients from Haiti to the U.S. if they need surgery which is difficult or impossible to get inside Haiti. Promoting awareness of Haiti

The Haiti Solidarity Committee is extremely interested in raising awareness of the current situation in Haiti and does so by finding opportunities to share information about Haiti in local media. We also sponsor various activities in the region that aim to raise awareness for Haiti. You can find out more about Haiti in our Haiti section.

Providing medical supplies to Haiti

The Haiti Solidarity Committee works with local organizations such as Global Links and national organizations like the Parish Twinning Program to send much-needed medical supplies to Haiti several times a year.
