Pittsburgh Stop the FTAA Campaign

Structure of the group:

PSFC is an official project of the Thomas Merton Center for Peace and Justice.  Although we're affiliated with the TMC, all decisions are made by the FTAA group as a whole.  We're diverse, non-hierarchical and believe in the equality of all people.  Most of our decisions are made at weekly meetings which operate by consensus process.

Goals of the group

1. To contribute to the Hemispheric Campaign to Prevent Passage of the FTAA.


2. To contribute to the effort to oppose the ministerial meetings in Miami.


3. Long term: to unite the various social forces being affected by neo-liberalism and take action locally to reverse the process.


4. To increase awareness of the alternatives to corporate globalization.


5. To highlight and make the connections between the FTAA and the local manifestations of neo-liberal policies such as cuts in transit, efforts to privatize the garbage service, corporatization of education, and more.
