Dear YOU!
Thank you so much for getting in touch with us! We are a small but determined group of concerned folks that are working closely with a few inmates at ROSP to stop the abuse that has been happening there. Basically, so far we have been collecting reports of unwarranted abuse and the systematic torture that continues to plague ROSP and Wallens Ridge, as well as any complaints that have been coming out to us. We are interested in your reports especially with dates, names and numbers of the Correctional Officers involved. If you decide to report a complaint or document abuse, please let us know if we can make this information public.
FedUp! attended the National Conference of Organized Resistance in Washington DC, at the beginning of February. Here we met many people from Virginia and have established contacts in Blacksburg, Harrisonburg, and Richmond. FedUp! continues to request that people contact Governor Warner, the DOC and the warden of ROSP. We have reached out to every prison related advocacy group we could find in Virginia, including PA CURE and Amnesty International. If you know of any groups or networks concerned with prison issues in Virginia, please let us know, for this information is invaluable. We are also trying to get papers to publish articles on this issue. Currently, we are trying to figure out where the FBI’s civil rights department investigation is at. The investigation has been open for 5 years now.
Any ideas you have on making this campaign have a positive outcome would be
greatly appreciated.
So, one member of our organization is actively involved with a group in Pennsylvania called Fight for Lifers. There are two chapters, one in Philly and one in Pittsburgh. PA and VA are both common wealth states and we are two of the few states that have Life Without Parole (LWOP). Fight for Lifers main goal is to abolish Life Without Parole as well as supporting both folks serving life sentences and their families. Do you all know of any organization in VA that is working on these issues specifically? Taking from their lead in organizing, we are asking that people provide us with 2 contacts of family members or friends on the outside. Copy the enclosed form if you can and pass it around to other peops. Please let us know if you have a life sentence. We at Fed UP! believe that the families and loved ones of prisoners must be the driving force behind a successful campaign.
So, what do you all think? Please write and let us know.
Ok. Goodnight, everybody.
Sweet Dreams,
FedUp!
