Volunteer

We meet to volunteer every Sunday from 3:00 to 8:00 pm at the Thomas Merton Center, 5125 Penn Avenue. We read letters from prisoners and select reading material to be sent to them. Then we pack the books up in paper and tape them up. Your help will be greatly appreciated. You don't have to stay all day-- you can drop in for as little or as much time as you want. During our work sessions you can also sort new donations, organize our library, write postcards, enter prisoner names into our database, or help us with other tasks.

If you have time during the week, you can also help us to accomplish other tasks, such as coordinating fundraisers, tabling at events, selling books, hosting book drives, recruiting more volunteers, promoting our projects, and more.

You can also bring your volunteer group to Book 'Em. We welcome groups of any kind, and are happy to provide an educational workshop to coincide with your service project. We have hosted groups from Congregation Dor Hadash, Rodef Shalom, interfaith volunteer days, Duquesne University, University of Pittsburgh, and Americorps.

We are happy to help individuals fulfill community service requirements for school, work, or court purposes. Please bring any necessary paperwork with you to one of our volunteer sessions.

For more information email bookem(at)indypgh(dot)org or call (412) 361-3022 and leave a message. A volunteer will call you back.
