Host a book or dictionary drive

You can host a book or dictionary drive anywhere you can fit a box! Schools, businesses, offices, community centers, temples, churches, synagogues, and anywhere else that people gather are all good locations. You can even host a book drive from your home: simple ask your friends and family to bring donations when they come to visit you.

Special occasions are also a good excuse for a book drive: consider asking celebrants at an anniversary, birthday, confirmation, graduation, b'nai mitzvah, 1st Communion, or other life event to bring donations in lieu of a gift. You can connect a book drive to a special event, holiday, or season. (You could plan a Spring Cleaning, Fall Clean-Out, First Day of Religious School Dictionary Drive, December Office Book Drive, etc).

Book 'Em volunteers are happy to help you with your efforts by providing printed educational materials (this can include brochures, prison photography books, comic books, and/or a portfolio of prisoner letters), as well as a speaker or educational workshop in order to support and boost your drive efforts. We are also happy to provide a decorated box or other container for your drive.

We recommend that you focus your drive on the kinds of books we most need, especially dictionaries. For more information on our most wanted books, see the Donate Books page.
