Town Hall Meeting on Women and PoliticsOn October 22, the Women’s Independent Press will sponsor a Town Hall Meeting to discuss various political issues and how they impact women, including the upcoming presidential election, the politics of division and compromise, and why more women aren’t running for office in Western Pennsylvania. Titled “Women and Politics and the Role of Compromise,” the Town Hall Meeting will be held at the Friends Meeting House, 4836 Ellsworth Avenue (between Shadyside and Oakland). The event is free and will begin at 7 pm. The purpose of the event is to provide a forum for women — who are traditionally not given a voice in politics — to have our say and to seek solutions to issues that affect our lives, our country and our future. As organizer Anna Marie Gire explains, “Women need to start working on these issues. It’s really up to us to envision and build a real democracy for everyone, not just for men or whites or a wealthy corporate elite.” The format will be in the tradition of the true town hall meeting: “This is going to be a real discussion among everyone,” says Gire, “and everyone will determine what gets discussed.” For more information about the Town Hall Meeting or the Women’s Independent Press, call, write or visit their website at: 412-563-6712; P.O.
