POG Turns Up the Heat in Election OffensiveNov 1: Pre-election night “Corporate Victory Party.” Because no matter who wins, the corporations win. Join us as we preemptively and unilaterally “celebrate” the victory of corporate power in this year’s election. 9pm-1am. Musical entertainment will (tentatively) be provided by our favorite pro-corporate bands: Cash Darlings, 2 Sexy Millionaires, and more, with performances by the Pittsburgh Radical Cheerleaders. Progressive groups will be tabling with literature about how we can all go “beyond voting” this election. Costume suggestions: Dress for success as one of your favorite evildoers; evil CEO man, the television, Texan oil millionaire, your favorite republicrat, Bush/Kerry, or dress up as your favorite brand! Or come as a member of one of the positions in society used to defend corporate interests (police/military/etc). If you want to crash the party come as your favorite corporate fighter/smasher; Ralph Nader, pirate, Jesus, black bloc’er, Robin Hood, Zorro, etc. Bring: food, drink, fun, a sense of humor… Nov 2: Election Day “Day of Direct Education and Outreach.” Educate voters on the need for systemic change and help us leaflet “don't just vote” materials at poll places around town. Nov 3: “Post-election Rally and March.” Because our dreams will never fit in their ballot boxes. Join us for a rally and march for real change in our political system, an end to war and occupation abroad, and social justice at home. Gather at 5:30pm at SEI (Fifth Ave - half way between Craig and Bellefield in Oakland). This November 2nd the country will engage in the charade of deciding between two of corporate America’s anointed choices and the only thing that’s certain is that large multinationals and the rich will be the true winners. We’ve decided not to get bogged down in age old debates about whether and for whom people should vote, how much or little voting does in the current system, and whether anyone should be capable of stomaching candidate X or Y. We’ve decided the best thing we can do is to move on from that quagmire and continue working for systemic progressive change. Because, to be honest, for the next four years we will face the same underlying problems regardless of which rich, white man is selected. Corporate power will continue to grow, wars will continue, the rich will get richer, systems of injustice will be further legislated as the status quo, and those without power will see their voices further silenced. The structure is rotten, no more replastering! Lets unite, take the initiative, and work towards attacking the true systems of power in our society that ensure we’re presented with merely the illusion of meaningful choice once every 2 or 4 years.
