Mothers Oppose in Frick Park

Fifty to sixty people attended the rally held to generate interest in the November 2 Presidential election.  Speakers addressed the problems the Bush administration has caused with the economy, environment, and foreign policy.

Molly Rush, activist and representative for PUSH (Pennsylvanians for Single-payer Healthcare) spoke to the crowd about the war in Iraq, saying, “We’re spending more on the military today than during the Vietnam War in real dollars.  And yet we’re sending our kids out there without armored vehicles to keep them safe.”

The rally was held next to the blue slide playground so families could attend.  The group was targeting the “security moms” often discussed in the media.  The rally was intended to show that mothers do not feel safer in George Bush’s America, but just the opposite.

In addition to Rush, speakers included Dean Gerber of Pittsburgh Bill of Rights Defense Campaign and local mom Sara Erbeldinger.  Performers included the Raging Grannies and Joey Murphy.  Anti-Bush cookies from Jackie Berberich were also featured.

The group has been working to raise awareness of the danger of President Bush’s policies to families throughout the fall and will be working to get Senator Santorum out of office in the future.

“It was a nice grassroots kind of rally.” Rachel Massey of Lawrenceville said.
